St Vincent Hospital patient details
used to beg for money

ST VINCENT'S Hospital fundraisers have used patients' personal details to beg for bequests.

The "very successful" scheme ran for "years and years" until a
patient with knowledge of privacy legislation complained to the
Melbourne hospital's management.

The practice was revealed at a confidential convention held by
the Fundraising Institute of Australia
, where Australia's leading charities
were taught how to pressure the vulnerable, elderly and dying
with emotive tactics and psychological profiling to bequeath their estates.

Participants at the four-day conference, including a journalist from Sydney's Sunday Telegraph, heard that charities are transporting the elderly to visit lawyers,
paying for legal fees to draft wills, contacting donors on birthdays and
at Christmas to make them feel "special" and educating that "greedy"
families must be frozen out of wills.

St Vincent's Foundation head of donor development David Cook, told
the conference the hospital had previously given patient information to
the foundation, an external organisation - a practice considered controversial
by
many in the Victorian medical community.

Telemarketing was now the foundation's preferred method of raising money, Mr Cook said.

"Would you believe it, there are people out there who like to be called?"

Mr Cook later told some delegates that
the end of patient record-sharing was unfortunate.

The practice would have continued undetected if not for
a "mishandled" complaint from a former patient, he said.

A spokesman for the Victorian Office of Health Services Commissioner said
health information could not be shared without a patient's permission.

On Friday, Mr Cook said: "It seemed to me to be obvious that patient
information would be shared between the hospital and the foundation."

St Vincent's Foundation director Bill Younger said medical records were not used
for fundraising.

"We advise patients of the Privacy Act and we seek their preference for
future contact regarding fundraising.
Their wishes are always respected," he said.

Baby 'abortion' argument is crossing the line
by: Andrew Bolt
From: Herald Sun
March 05, 2012 12:00AM

The argument put forward by ethicists about aborting babies outside the womb
clearly crosses the line
, says Andrew Bolt. Herald Sun

I HAVE written about cases so shocking that whatever you think of
abortion - for, against or agonised like me - I thought you'd agreed.

Yes, here a boundary was crossed.

This, at least, is too much like murder.

There was the 2000 case of the "abortion" of Jessica, a healthy 32-week-old
foetus, after her deeply distressed mother threatened suicide if made to give birth.

The mother thought Jessica could be a dwarf, which meant bad luck.

But on "delivery" of the girl, killed in the womb, a nurse at Melbourne's Royal Women's recorded: "The baby doesn't look small."

I thought this would at least prompt restrictions on the abortion of healthy babies so close to birth.

I was wrong.

Later, I reported on Jessica Jane, aborted in Darwin after her mother decided she'd prefer her career.

Jessica Jane was expelled from the womb - alive.

She was placed in a stainless-steel dish by a horrified midwife and left in
a room, where she cried until she died, alone, 80 minutes later.

I thought this might force us to consider how carelessly we said "foetus"
when discussing late-term abortions, when we're actually talking about
babies who, outside the womb, can cry - and take an hour to die.

Wrong again.

I was just as wrong to assume that publicising other cases - like the
rescue of an aborted baby, still alive, from a bin at Sydney's Westmead
hospital - might make us agree such deaths involve a profound wrong.

Yes, a mother has a right to her body, but surely these babies had a right to their lives.

But again no debate.

Or so I thought.

Now the Journal of Medical Ethics has published a paper by professional
"ethicists" that confronts the very hypocrisy that troubled me - that we
permit the killing of children in the womb who we'd rush to protect if outside it.

But here is how Alberto Giubilini of Monash University and Dr Francesca Minerva of Melbourne University say that hypocrisy should be overcome.

"What we call 'after-birth abortion' (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases
where abortion is (permissible), including cases where the newborn is not disabled."

That's right.

Since we already permit the killing of babies inside the womb, why not outside it, too?

As the authors say: "If criteria such as the costs (social, psychological, economic) for
the potential parents are good enough reasons for having an abortion even when the
foetus is healthy, if the moral status of the newborn is the same as that of the infant
and if neither has any moral value by virtue of being a potential person, then the same reasons which justify abortion should also justify the killing of the potential person when
it is at the stage of a newborn."

A legal reason for killing your baby could be, say, unexpected losses at the pokies, leaving you short of cash for nappies.

That's how I interpret this bit: "We do not suggest any threshold (beyond which you can't
kill your healthy baby)
, as it depends on the neurological development of newborns.

"However, ... if economical, social or psychological circumstances change such that
taking care of the offspring becomes an unbearable burden on someone, then people
should be given the chance of not being forced to do something they cannot afford."

So, it's unclear how long you would have to lawfully kill a child who becomes too expensive.

Two weeks?

Two years?

Indeed, there is no obvious boundary once you've rubbed out the absolute line in the sand: thou shalt not kill the baby in the womb.

Yes, this is the slippery slope argument that progressives hate, because it gets in the way when they argue for same sex marriage or euthanasia.

Yet, the defence of the journal's article by its editor, Julian Savulescu, shows how slippery that slope can be, since he offers the "they're all doing it anyway" excuse that can licence
any mass barbarity.

"The arguments presented, in fact, are largely not new and have been presented repeatedly in the academic literature."

In fact, what shocks Savulescu is not a proposal to allow the murder of babies, but that people should be angered by it.

"What is disturbing is not the arguments in this paper nor its publication in an ethics journal. It is the hostile, abusive, threatening responses that it has elicited."

Poor ethicists.

How scary if some people feel entitled to threaten you, as if you were just some baby.

After all, even in a world where a baby's life isn't sacred, an ethicist's is.

Isn't it?

Francesca Minerva at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne

Piers,

A paper published in the

I can answer that for you Rick.
It’s because of
militant feminists and because of Emily’s List and the power base they’ve established in the Labor Party.

This is what they say on their website:

We believe women must have control over their own bodies and choices
in their lives. Reproductive Freedom empowers women and men to choose
if, when and how to begin the important journey into parenthood, without
fear of discrimination, coercion or violence.

This is from a quick google - Life Network Australia - Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Emily’s List holds up abortion as a trophy of women’s reproductive
rights, espouses the rhetoric of “choice” and poses as an organisation
fighting for equality of women. At first glance, why wouldn’t any
company jump at the opportunity to sponsor them?

If, however, you look a little more closely, you may just see something more sinister.

It was Emily List’s, Candy Broad, that initially tabled an abortion
Bill that would legalise abortion up until birth - but it was put aside
until after a federal election.

Emily List’s Maxine Morand then retabled it. It was her Emily’s List
colleagues,
Joan Kirner, Jacinta Allan (Bendigo East) and others that
argued passionately in support of the Bill.

When challenged on her support of the legislation, during the last
Victorian election, Ms Allan refused to comment. Her constituents flatly
refused to believe that she would have supported abortion up until
birth. With the protection of her local Bendigo newspaper, she remains
unaccountable.

During the abortion debate in Parliament, images of aborted babies were
viewed. Abortion survivor, Gianna Jessen, gave her amazing story of
surviving an abortion and asked “Where were my rights as a female?”

But Emily’s List MPs remained determined.

Peter Kavanagh, former Member of the Democratic Labour Party, described
how he was told by some ALP MPs that although they did not want to
support the Bill, they were told (by the ALP) that they would not be
endorsed for reselection if they did not
- so much for a conscience vote!

Former ALP Member for Bendigo West, Bob Cameron, voted against the Bill.
He has since been replaced by Emily List’s Maree Edwards.

The legislation was passed and numerous amendments were put forward -
some 60, in fact. It was the rejection of these amendments that gives us
a look into what Emily’s List really stands for.

Given they had succeeded in legalising abortion in Victoria, one would
think that a political organisation that champions the rights of women
would have supported the following amendments: Parental consent for
girls under 18 years (parental consent is required for piercings);
mandatory reporting of suspected sexual abuse; support/counselling for
women considering abortion; a “cooling off period” for women considering
late term abortion. But no - each Emily’s List Member of Parliament
voted each of these amendments down.

Emily Listers also opposed: The banning of partial birth abortions
(banned in the U.S); provision of medical care for aborted babies born
alive; anaesthetic for babies aborted late term; and limitting abortion
availability to 20 or 24 weeks (babies can survive outside the womb at
this stage).

In espousing to be “pro choice”, there is no evidence of Emily’s List
having any interest in any “choice” other than abortion. Where do they
show such determination and passion for adoption? Are they fighting to
have red tape surrounding adoption cut?

Where are they lobbying for pregnancy support centres? Parenting classes?

It is blaringly obvious that Emily’s List is “pro choice” alright...as long as that “choice” is abortion!

The champagne flowed for those Emily Listers who had secured their
ultimate “trophy”, but for the women, families and babies of Victoria
and Australia, it was a very sad day. Legal protection for the unborn
and also for women had been stripped.

THIS
is where the Chinese whispers of hate against Tony Abbott come from.
THIS is why he is described as DANGEROUS.

They condemn anyone who has the unmitigated gall to think that abortion
is not a badge of honour to be worn lightly and without consequence or
who thinks that women are now being railroaded into abortions without
being shown that there are alternatives
IF they wish to choose them.

Emily’s List are emblematic of
the mentality and moral idiocy of the Left.

Either agree with us or we’ll crucify you.

Hence, Rick, that report will never see the light of day.

Emily’s List until I read one of your comments and did a little
investigating. They profess to lobby for the rights of women but in
reality abortion is the be all and end all. They say they are
‘pro-choice’ but God help you if you suggest that women, especially
young women, should be told that such a decision is life altering and

Column - Stifling free speech won’t guarantee good speech
Andrew Bolt – Monday, March 05, 12 (07:41 am)

THE Gillard Government’s media inquiry
threatens not only our freedom to speak,
but to hear and decide for ourselves. But why
?

Its report last week, by retired judge Ray Finkelstein, proposes a super media-cop,
funded by government, to police all that’s said and written in the media.

It would even have the power to disappear you - or, rather, your words -
by requiring offending artilces to removed from the Internet, never to be read again.

But what suddenly happened that free speech is thought a threat,
needing even more oppressive controls?

Finkelstein offers five “striking instances” of “wrongful harm” caused by
“unreliable or inaccurate reporting, breach of privacy, and the failure to
properly take into account the defenceless”.

Its list is astonishingly thin.

“A minister of the Crown has his homosexuality exposed. He is forced to resign.”

(The NSW minister was found visiting a bath house, is not defenceless
and was not forced to resign, but chose to.)

“A chief commissioner of police is the victim of false accusations about
his job performance fed to the news media by a ministerial adviser ...
He is forced to resign.”

(Victorian chief commissioner Simon Overland, not defenceless”,
chose to resign after largely valid criticisms of, among other things, his
decision to sack his deputy and his release of incomplete crime statistics.)

“Nude photographs said to be of a female politician contesting a seat in
a state election are published with no checking of their veracity. The
photographs are fakes.”

(The paper which ran the fake pictures of Pauline Hanson,
who isn’t defenceless”, apologised, paid damages and was caned by its readers.
What more should have been done?)

The report cites two other alleged media sins - a teenager victimised
over her sexual relationship with a sportsman, and a mother wrongly
implicated in the deaths of her children.

Were these sins not properly punished? We are not told.

Or does Finkelstein think his News Media Council would terrorise journalists into never making mistakes in the first place?

I say that because of this bizarre claim:

“Most newspapers steadfastly maintain that there is no need to
strengthen the means by which they are to be held publicly accountable
...

“(But) many who made submissions to the inquiry also think the press is not perfect, and argued that its performance was often wanting. Both claims cannot be correct.”

Actually, they can, if you accept mistakes are inevitable, but punishments already exist.

They can, if you realise that more punishments won’t stop mistakes, but will chill debate.

They can, if you realise the real threat isn’t free speech, but more laws to control it.

What she (Gillard) thinks…
… on late-term abortion

“It’s not the business of politicians
to make sweeping statements on issues like these.
People have to confront all sorts
of different circumstances –
profound disability, for example.
For me, it’s about letting an individual
make that decision
with her family.
It’s not my place to preach.
I’m generally in favour of
allowing women to make decisions

and not having politicians make them for them.”

Caz replied to Rick

I can answer that for you Rick.
It’s because of
militant feminists and
because of Emily’s List and
the power base they’ve established in the Labor Party.

This is what they say on their website:

We believe women must have control over their own bodies and choices
in their lives. Reproductive Freedom empowers women and men to choose
if, when and how
to begin the important journey into parenthood, without
fear of discrimination, coercion or violence.

If, however, you look a little more closely,
you may just see something more sinister.

When challenged on her support of the legislation,
during the last Victorian election, Ms Allan refused to comment.
Her constituents flatly refused to believe that she would have
supported abortion up until birth.
With the protection of her local Bendigo newspaper
,
she remains unaccountable.
During the abortion debate in Parliament,
images of aborted babies were viewed.

Abortion
survivor, Gianna Jessen,
gave her amazing story of
surviving an abortion and asked
“Where were my rights as a female?”

But Emily’s List MPs remained determined.
Peter Kavanagh, former Member of the Democratic Labour Party,
described how he was told by some ALP MPs that
although they did not want to support the Bill,
they were told (by the ALP) that they
would not be endorsed for reselection
if they did not
- so much for a conscience vote!

Given they had succeeded in legalising abortion in Victoria, one would
think that a political organisation that champions the rights of women
would have supported the following amendments: Parental consent for
girls under 18 years (parental consent is required for piercings);
mandatory reporting of suspected sexual abuse; support/counselling for
women considering abortion; a “cooling off period” for women considering
late term abortion. But no - each Emily’s List Member of Parliament
voted each of these amendments down.

Emily Listers also opposed:
The banning of partial birth abortions (banned in the U.S);
provision of medical care for aborted babies born alive;
anaesthetic for babies aborted late term;

and limitting abortion availability to 20 or 24 weeks
(babies can survive outside the womb at this stage).

It is blaringly obvious that
Emily’s List is “pro choice” alright...
as long as that “choice” is abortion!

The champagne flowed for those Emily Listers who had secured their
ultimate “trophy”, but for the women, families and babies of Victoria
and Australia, it was a very sad day. Legal protection for the unborn
and also for women had been stripped.

THIS is where the Chinese whispers of
hate against Tony Abbott come from.

Ciggy the FINKlestein...

Post true lilly on Mon Mar 05, 2012 8:15 am

See what and whom, I've been up against all these years.

Bugger debate. There is no debate.
We've been drowning in real world evidence for years.

7 years and still they have no counter argument,
so hey, No argument, No debate, No expression of Independent opinion.
Simply make it illegal to disagree with BALD FACED LIES.

Finklestein’s media council: will sceptics be censored?
Andrew Bolt – Tuesday, March 06, 12 (12:07 am)

Australian Climate Madness warns the Finkelstein report could lead to warming sceptics being censored by the proposed new News Media Council. And it is right.

In detaling the alleged sins of the media, Finkelstein strays way
beyond his competence in assessing what’s bias in the climate debate,
and what is a legiitimate protest against overwhelming and deceitful
propaganda and an utterly useless and ruinous tax:

4.33 One of the conclusions reached in the report (a particularly loaded one by by the far-Left Australian Centre for Independent Journalism) was this:

The two biggest News Ltd tabloids—the Herald
Sun and the Daily Telegraph—have been so biased in their coverage that
it is fair to say they ‘campaigned’ against the policy rather than
covered it.

Finkelstein even cites sympathetically Robert Manne, a fervent alarmist
with zero qualifications in climate science and little apparent
knowledge of the issues in contention:

4.40 For instance, the Inquiry heard from Professor Robert Manne who,
earlier in 2011, had written an extensive critique of The Australian
newspaper in Quarterly Essay entitled ‘Bad News: Murdoch’s Australian
and the Shaping of the Nation’ that examined seven case studies of the
newspaper’s coverage of issues.

4.41 One of his case studies concerned coverage of climate change
policy and his findings mirrored those of the Australian Centre for
Independent Journalism. Professor Manne’s research found that articles
unfavourable to action on climate change outnumbered favourable articles
by a ratio of four to one.

4.42 In his response to Professor Manne’s work, Paul Kelly who is The
Australian’s editor-?at-?large, did not refute Manne’s statistics.
Instead, he argued that Manne’s position was based on a ‘rejection of
debate’ about the science of climate change:

One reason for the public’s backlash making carbon pricing
so unpopular was the precise attitude [Manne] took.
While pretending to be rational his rejection of debate was really faith-based dogmatism and the Australian public didn’t like being told what to think by patronising experts.

Note that Finkelstein makes no comment at all about the far more overwhelming bias of, say, The Age, which reports the climate debate from a pro-warmist perspective so one-sided that even its own staff passed a statement of protest against their editor-in-chief,
after he virtually took dictation from a green group, Nor is any mention made of the overwheming warmist bias of the ABC. No, the only bias and alleged campaigning that concerns Finkelstein is that of sceptics.

Worse, he strongly suggests that this “bias” towards the sceptic’s side
of the argument is one that needs fixing by his government-backed News
Media Council.

Finkelstein raises the climate coverage of The Australian to illustrate this concern:

… in news reporting it is expected by the public, as
well as by professional journalists, that the coverage will be fair and
accurate. Nonetheless, there is a widely-held public view that, despite
industry-developed codes of practice that state this, the reporting of
news is not fair, accurate and balanced.

And after discussing The Australian’s alleged sins - and other media failings such as breaches of privacy - Finkelstein concludes:

Across each of the areas which have been identified, it is relatively easy to identify failings in journalistic standards.
One proponent of the status quo of self-regulation suggested that
‘while it is trivially easy to demonstrate inaccuracies or biases or
ethical lapses in the press, the proper solution to such failures seems
to be working quite well’ . The last assertion will be subject of
detailed consideration later. It is sufficient at this juncture to make
the following points. The ease of identifications of failings comes from
the fact that they are not rare or infrequent. While some might be
trivial, many are not. Their persistent recurrence over the years indicates that existing measures to deal with the problem need improvement.

This strongly suggests that Finkelstein believes his proposed News Media
Council could be used to stop or limit news organsations from
publishing reports casting doubt on global warming theory and useless
measures to “stop” global warming.

I cannot see how it can be read any other way. In this aspect alone, Finkelstein’s report is alarming. Even outrageous..

No wonder Australian Climate Madness is worried. After all, Finkelstein
proposes that his News Media Council regulate just such blogs as well,
and even ones far smaller, with just 40 hits a day.

How frightening that this kind of censorship - or, rather, “improvement” - potentially confronts us.

The warmists’ straw man: “We never said it wouldn’t rain”
Andrew Bolt – Monday, March 05, 12 (05:42 pm)

Is the gullible Anthony Sharwood saying Tim Flannery isn’t credible?
And why does he falsely claim that the criticism of alarmist scientist
is that they said it “would never rain again”? What a ludicrous and
deceptive exaggeration:

Dr Karl Braganza of the National Climate Centre… says
that any prediction whatsoever of higher or lower rainfall as a result
of climate change is complete bunkum.

That’ll come as a surprise to those who promoted the straw man argument
that the climate scientists all told us in the midst of the drought that
it would never rain again.

In fact, the reputable scientists never said anything of the sort. (Note to Sharwood: who ever claimed that they did? Quotes, please.)

“I have trawled everything we put out to see if someone from one of our
offices said anything like this, but no, we definitely never put out
statements that it would never rain again,” says Dr Karl.

“The scientists at the BoM (Bureau of Meteorology)and CSIRO made
continuous statements that the drought will end, and that [the dry spell
in the 2000s] wasn’t permanent...”

Here’s all of that in a nutshell. No one reputable ever said it wouldn’t rain again.
All they said is, it’s getting warmer and we don’t really know what
comes next. Maybe it’s more rain. Maybe it’s less. We’re still working
on that.

Sharwood huffs and puffs in indignation about an accusation that was
never made - that scientists claimed “it would never rain again”. This
is a red herring.

I suspect Sharwood knows that the real accusation is crucially
different: that some prominent warmists claimed global warming was
indeed bringing less rain, the drought could be permanent and our dams
could or would run out of water. What’s more, Braganza is wrong, and
some of those alarmists came from the Bureau of Meteorology.

A sample:

Greens leader Bob Brown in 2006:

From melting polar ice to the spectre of permanent drought in previously productive farmlands, the (World Meteorological Bureau’s) report makes clear that climate change is not just a future threat, it is damaging Australia now.
Brown in 2008:

Already, (Rudd government adviser Ross Garnaut’s)
daunting data of a 10 per cent chance of no flow at all in the
Murray-Darling river system in future years is being overtaken by data
indicating that drought is the new norm across Australia’s greatest food bowl.

The Sydney Morning Herald in 2008:

This drought may never break

IT MAY be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent, one of the nation’s most senior weather experts warned yesterday.

“Perhaps we should call it our new climate,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of climate analysis, David Jones....

“There is a debate in the climate community, after … close to 12 years
of drought, whether this is something permanent. Certainly, in terms of temperature, that seems to be our reality, and that there is no turning back....”

Jones to the University of East Anglia in 2007:

Truth be know, climate change here is now running so rampant that we don’t need meteorological data to see it. Almost everyone of our cities is on the verge of running out of water and our largest irrigation system (the Murray Darling Basin is on the verge of collapse...

The Age in 2009:

A three-year collaboration between the Bureau of
Meteorology and CSIRO has confirmed what many scientists long suspected:
that the 13-year drought is not just a natural dry stretch but a shift
related to climate change…

‘’It’s reasonable to say that a lot of the current drought of the last
12 to 13 years is due to ongoing global warming,’’ said the bureau’s
Bertrand Timbal.

‘’In the minds of a lot of people, the rainfall we had in the 1950s,
1960s and 1970s was a benchmark. A lot of our [water and agriculture] planning was done during that time. But we are just not going to have that sort of good rain again as long as the system is warming up.’’...

Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery in 2007:

Flannery predicted cities such as Brisbane would
never again have dam-filling rains, as global warming had caused “a 20 per cent decrease in rainfall in some areas” and made the soil too hot, “so even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and river systems … “.

Warmist scientist David Karoly, 2003:

The Murray-Darling Basin… covers towns north to Toowoomba, west to
Broken Hill and south to Victoria and South Australia… Drought severity in the Murray Darling is increasing with global warming… This is the first drought in Australia where the impact of human-induced global warming can be clearly observed.

Queensland Conservation Council:

Reduced rainfall due to Global warming will lead to decreased overall water availability… In part, the SEQ water crisis has been caused by climate change

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie, 2007:

Given the current uncertainty about the likely impact of climate change on rainfall patterns in (South Eastern Queensland) over coming years, it is only prudent to assume at this stage that lower than usual rainfalls could eventuate....

Flannery again:

Overthe past 50 years southern Australia has lost about 20 per cent of its rainfall, and one cause is almost certainly global
warming....Desalination plants can provide insurance against drought. In Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane, water supplies are so low they need desalinated water urgently, possibly in as little as 18 months.

Climate Change Minister Penny Wong, 2008:

We know the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said by 2050 that Australia should expect around about a 25 per cent reduction in rainfall in the southern part of the Australia…
So there is a very, very sound body of evidence that indicates that
climate change is and will have an impact on rainfall in the
Murray-Darling Basin and in southern Australia.

UPDATE

Remember how 60 Minutes (and the CONspiracy Industry 'Stars' that still attack me,
for warning folk back then, to NOT fall for it), whipped up the “permanent drought” scare in 2005?

CHARLES WOOLEY: While many farmers believe that drought is just part of a
natural cycle, scientist Dr Tim Flannery sees much broader and more
sinister forces at work. We live in a new world where global warming and
climate change now have Australia on the edge of permanent drought.

PROFESSOR TIM FLANNERY: We are in by far the worst position of any country that I’ve had a look at in terms of climate change.

CHARLES WOOLEY: The worst of any country?

PROFESSOR TIM FLANNERY: Yes. When you look right across the continent,
what has happened is that the winter rainfall zone that has been the
heart and soul of the bread basket of Australia is declining. The amount
of rainfall through winter is declining. On the east coast of Australia
we have a parallel effect where we are getting these El Ninos back to
back. We’re getting one drought after the other and eastern Australia is
suffering from that. So put together, you have the continent from Perth
through to Brisbane suffering severe water deficits.

CHARLES WOOLEY: If Tim Flannery is right, the new weather regime has southern Australia drying out permanently.

(Thanks to readers Ray and Mark.)

And that's only this week, lets forget the inconvenient truth of the last couple of years of
floods, that if we had have built dams and managed our annual monsoonal dumps, that
flow and flood from the north to the south in heavy years, we wouldn't have had any dry years, or such damaging floods from wild, uncontrolled flows.

It's not rocket science, it's simple hydrology that primitive desert cultures have used successfully for thousands of years.

But lets not kid ourselves, those Greenies are NOT idiots, and they do NOT want to 'save the planet', but DESTROY LIFE, and have been doing a BLOODY 'good' job of that for generations.

Got this email this morning and thought I would share with you all:-

The new element is Governmentium (Gv).
It has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons,
88 deputy neutrons and 198 assistant deputy neutrons,
giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons,
which are surrounded by vast quantities of lefton-like particles
called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons or protons, it is inert. However,
it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it
comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction
normally taking less than a second to take from four days to four years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years. It does not decay
but instead undergoes a reorganisation in which a portion of the
assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium’s mass will actually increase over time, since
each reorganisation will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming
isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe
that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical
concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical
morass.

When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium,
an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium
since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.
All of the money is consumed in the exchange,
and no other byproducts are produced.

Makes you wonder which party this refers too doesn’t it.

$5 billion water bill bleeds us dry

The desalination plant at Wonthaggi and (inset) floods near Nathalia this week.
Herald Sun

VICTORIA would need to be in drought for eight years
before a drop of water was required
from the Wonthaggi desalination plant, scientists say.

But taxpayers will pay more than $5 billion in that time to have access to the water.

As floods swamp the northeast, critics have questioned why the plant was built.

Prof Hector Malano, a water resource management expert at the
University of Melbourne, said Melbourne's current water storages
would last until 2020 even if there were a drought.

"It would be up to eight years depending on the climate and population growth," he said.

"Desalination is the last option
that you want to use.
But once the decision is made
to begin building the plant,
we will be paying for it for some time."

The desalination plant will cost taxpayers $24 billion over 30 years.

Victorians will pay
desalination plant project company AquaSure
$1.8 million a day for access to water at the plant,
even if none is used; $5.2 billion by 2020.

Water storages are 64.7 per cent full after hitting a record low of 25.6 per cent in June 2009.

In further potential pain to taxpayers,
AquaSure has demanded a $1.3 billion loan
to refinance its debt and
a 12-month deadline extension
from the State Government.

It also claimed a $560 million payment this year
even though it doubted the plant would be finished.

Mark Robertson, president of anti-desalination campaigners Watershed,
said the plant should never have been built.

"We survived during the drought with water restrictions and
that didn't cost anything or have the environmental effects," he said.

Water Minister Peter Walsh said
the Labor government had panicked
during the drought

when it ordered the plant.

"The previous government should have acted before the drought occurred
by looking at stormwater and recycled water for non-drinking purposes,"
he said.

Mr Walsh said he would vigorously defend AquaSure's financial claims,
adding he would not sign anything that was not value for money for taxpayers.

An AquaSure spokeswoman said:
"Like any other major project contract,
there are provisions in our contract
with the state for AquaSure to lodge claims
in certain circumstances."

Finklestein’s media council: will sceptics be censored?

Andrew Bolt – Tuesday, March 06, 12 (12:07 am)

Australian
Climate Madness warns the Finkelstein report could lead to warming
sceptics being censored by the proposed new News Media Council. And it
is right.

In detaling the alleged sins of the media, Finkelstein strays way
beyond his competence in assessing what’s bias in the climate debate,
and what is a legiitimate protest against overwhelming and deceitful
propaganda and an utterly useless and ruinous tax:

4.33
One of the conclusions reached in the report (a particularly loaded
one by by the far-Left Australian Centre for Independent Journalism)
was this:

While pretending to be rational his rejection of debate was really
faith-based dogmatism and the Australian public didn’t like being told
what to think by patronising experts.

Note that Finkelstein makes no comment at all about the far more overwhelming bias of, say, The Age,
which reports the climate debate from a pro-warmist perspective so
one-sided that even its own staff passed a statement of protest
against their editor-in-chief,
after he virtually took dictation from a green group, Nor is any
mention made of the overwheming warmist bias of the ABC. No, the only
bias and alleged campaigning that concerns Finkelstein is that of
sceptics.

From melting polar ice to the spectre of permanent drought in previously productive farmlands, the
(World Meteorological Bureau’s) report makes clear that climate change
is not just a future threat, it is damaging Australia now.

IT MAY be time to stop describing south-eastern Australia as gripped by
drought and instead accept the extreme dry as permanent, one of the
nation’s most senior weather experts warned yesterday.

“Perhaps we should call it our new climate,” said the Bureau of Meteorology’s head of climate analysis, David Jones....

“There is a debate in the climate community, after … close to 12 years
of drought, whether this is something permanent. Certainly, in terms of
temperature, that seems to be our reality, and that there is no turning
back....”

Jones to the University of East Anglia in 2007:

Truth
be know, climate change here is now running so rampant that we don’t
need meteorological data to see it. Almost everyone of our cities is on
the verge of running out of water and our largest irrigation system (the
Murray Darling Basin is on the verge of collapse...

‘’In the minds of a lot of people, the rainfall we had in the 1950s,
1960s
and 1970s was a benchmark. A lot of our [water and agriculture]
planning was done during that time. But we are just not going to have
that sort of good rain again as long as the system is warming
up.’’...[/i]

Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery in 2007:

Flannery predicted cities such as Brisbane would
never again have dam-filling rains, as global warming had caused “a 20 per
cent
decrease in rainfall in some areas” and made the soil too hot, “so even
the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and river
systems … “.

Warmist scientist David Karoly, 2003:

The Murray-Darling Basin… covers towns north to Toowoomba, west to
Broken
Hill and south to Victoria and South Australia… Drought severity in the
Murray Darling is increasing with global warming… This is the first
drought in Australia where the impact of human-induced global warming
can be clearly observed.

Queensland Conservation Council:

Reduced
rainfall due to Global warming will lead to decreased overall water
availability… In part, the SEQ water crisis has been caused by climate
change

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie, 2007:

Given the current uncertainty about the likely impact of climate change on
rainfall patterns in (South Eastern Queensland) over coming years, it
is only prudent to assume at this stage that lower than usual rainfalls
could eventuate....

We
know the IPCC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, said by
2050 that Australia should expect around about a 25 per cent reduction
in rainfall in the southern part of the Australia…

And that's only this week, lets forget the inconvenient truth of the last couple of years of
floods, that if we had have built dams and managed our annual monsoonal dumps, that
flow
and flood from the north to the south in heavy years, we wouldn't have
had any dry years, or such damaging floods from wild, uncontrolled
flows.

Re: And Labor still thinks Rudd is the bigger scandal

Post true lilly on Sat Mar 10, 2012 7:16 am

Labor only has one policy - target Tony
Piers Akerman – Saturday, March 10, 12 (10:21 pm)

THE Gillard-Labor-Green-independent minority government has no successful
programs, policies or record of success, so it is attacking Tony Abbott.

With not one issue they wish to identify with, the government, from
Julia Gillard down, is reading from a single script - get Abbott. What
an extraordinary admission of total failure.

The Labor Party is still operating as if it were in opposition.

With its media allies in the ABC and Fairfax, the ALP never stops
sniggering about his appearance in his life-saver uniform
budgie-smugglers, or attempting to promote malicious rumours about his staff.

Even now there are Labor supporters trawling through Abbott’s career as a
journalist with long-extinct Bulletin magazine in an attempt to sully his reputation.

As we saw during the vicious campaign to denigrate Kevin Rudd, there are
no depths too low for Labor. Even the newly minted senator Bob Carr is
on-message, telling allies on Tuesday: “If we make Abbott the issue, we
will win. Our strategy at the next election needs to be a referendum on
Abbott. If we drive that message home, we will win.”

Militant incoming ACTU boss Dave Oliver is promising a campaign to demonise Abbott.

There was a time when governments were expected to deliver for the nation, not carry-on like vuvuzela-blowing sports fans.

But the monotonous drone has deafened many voters to the government’s silence on big issues.

This paucity of policy was highlighted when the Prime Minister flew over
the flooded plains of NSW this week and was asked a question about the
need to build dams.

Unable to come up with a constructive reply, Gillard replied: “Oh look, I
think you’ll find that the question about dams and flood mitigation is
not a simple one.

“So let’s not, whilst people are still working, you know, volunteering,
while people are still thinking what’s happened to their home, pretend
that there’s an easy solution here. That’s not the right thing to do."

Oh, really, if it’s not the right time to outline policy on water, when is?

The dam question Gillard ducked really related to the need to have a
sensible policy on harvesting water, not letting it run into the ocean.

That says a lot about her sensitivity to the Green ideologues who
successfully manipulated Carr when he was NSW premier and blocked the
building of a much-needed new dam south of Sydney.

As for sloganeering politicians, there is probably no greater abuser of
the political slogans and cliches than Gillard, who still flogs “moving
forward”, “the right thing to do” and “working families” (as opposed to what?).

If Gillard was genuine she would have denounced Fair Work Australia for
its refusal to assist police inquiries on allegations of misuse of union
funds by Craig Thomson, the NSW Labor MP who is subject to the
longest-running investigation of an individual in the nation’s history
(which he denies).

But she and her Minister for Workplace Relations, Bill Shorten, cannot bring themselves to criticise Fair Work Australia.

The hypocrisy of a government so critical of everything the opposition
proposes, accepting without question the refusal of a government
instrumentality to assist law enforcement authorities is staggering.

But contradictions are the norm for this government, with Treasurer
Wayne Swan claiming to support growth in the Australian economy while
singling out the mining sector, the only area of the economy which is
expanding, for criticism.

It makes as much sense as Climate Minister Greg Combet’s insistence that
the government will maintain its starting price of $23-a-tonne for
carbon dioxide in July when there is no support for such a price on the
world market. That stupidity is matched only by the government’s plan to
provide a fixed level of compensation for this economy-destroying tax
when it subsequently floats the carbon dioxide price.

How can that possibly work? Even the most economically illiterate will
understand that it is impossible to “fix” a level of compensation for a
“floating” penalty.

Never has a sitting prime minister, even an appointed one like Gillard,
lied so clearly about a policy during an election campaign as she did on
this tax issue. Never has a prime minister been so publicly referred to
as a liar and never has the description been so deserved and so
accepted.

The lies, of course, continue with the anti-Abbott campaign.

Even now, as Abbott promises - among other policies - to establish an
audit commission, repeal the carbon dioxide tax and restore border
security, Labor insists he has no policies.

Abbott is not the issue, he is the Opposition leader.

The government is the issue and it is a failure.

Labor Party members and their supporters are first political team players,
everything they do puts the Labor Party first.
It is all about keeping Labor in front of the Liberal National Coalition at any cost
to constituents.
They proclaim their faults by insisting on using
the MP for Dobell, Craig Thomson, as their little drummer boy.

Insisting on keeping him standing their year after year
defiantly tapping on his drum, while every attempt to bring him down is blocked
by faceless men and women in positions of power and influence.

Every shot intended to bring him and Federal Labor government to their knees
fails to hit the small yet important target.
This party member is part of a much more important battle,

where we the peoples must resolve to do at the ballot box what,
The Labor Party refuses to do for itself.
We must uproot the political weeds growing within our garden bed of democracy.
Labor MP for Dobell Craig Thomson symbolizes in the political court of public
opinion much of what has gone wrong with Labor nationally.

We know Labor has been consuming itself from within, we watched while they reached
greedily for something useful in the person of Bob Carr from outside the federal sphere. Their actions a signpost pointing to their own political consumption.
The fall in membership means their politics
has withered and bears no good fruit for the grass roots people who nurtured
Labor over a hundred years, Labors roots are rotten. It is way past time to
plough the political weeds into the ground and start again.

Why does Thomson seem a protected species?

It's not Craig Thompson, but his very close, blood relation,

Red, Blue, Green, Plain, Checkered and All Stripes, but yet,
'strangle hold' tight, family.

She's known as Ms. Box; Pandora.

Breaking News: 'Protected Species' Title Lifted.

The lid has been lifted on the family of Ms. Pandora Box.
Having reached Globally Threatening Plague proportions,
culls have already begun.

All members who fail to divorce themselves

It was revealed that plague numbers went unnoticed for
so long, due to the Shredding, withholding, burying and
deliberate altering of records, by family members of the,
once powerful Ms. Pandora Box, deliberately placed in
'respected' positions, such as medicine, the judiciary,

Catallaxy Files
Media bias – does it affect voting patterns?

I take it as such an obvious fact of life that one of the problems
we on our side of the fence have to deal with, and it is a very
long-standing problem, is the media bias that makes it very difficult to
put our perspective into the public domain without having to go through
the distorting lens of the mainstream media. In a posting
in which I noted that his wins in the lastest rounds of primaries were
being given no serious media coverage and certainly very little positive
coverage, something noticed by many others and not just me, I stated in
an off-handed sort of way that “the narrative, as in all instances, is
in the hands of the American media whose aim is to demoralise the
Republican side as much as possible.”
But this then led to a comment by
one of my fellow contributors here at Catallaxy. Samuel J wrote in reply:

What’s going on is that the narrative, as in all instances,
is in the hands of the American media whose aim is to
demoralise the Republican side as much as possible.

This type of argument is used by those who think the media should be
regulated and overseen by some independent council for fairness. I don’t
agree with the argument – if Romney doesn’t win the election it will be
because people didn’t vote for him, not because of the media.

To be frank, I found this something of a surprise. I would think that
to have watched politics at all, certainly everywhere in the English
speaking world, there would be no question that to try to inject a
right-of-centre perspective is seriously difficult.
And again, I am
hardly the only one to have made this point. So to clarify matters, I

You know, Samuel J, we are obviously living in a parallel universe. What kind of statement is this?

If Romney doesn’t win the election it will be because people didn’t vote for him, not because of the media.

Do you not see any possible cause and effect relationship between who
people vote for and the media that surrounds them? You should have a
look at the extraordinarily interesting book on media bias, Left Turn,
which I reviewed in Quadrant. This is from that review:

Using some very sophisticated econometric techniques, he
estimates that were the media’s bias around 50 instead, the PQ of the
country would move from around 50 to around half that number to
something like 20-25. That is, the population of the United States would
then have views on average far more conservative than the biases
exhibited in the present day by Fox News!

That is as near a fact as I can conjure about what ought to be the
most obvious problem for anyone running on the right side of the
political fence. It is not, and amongst us has never been, a call to
regulate the media. But if this is invisible to you, whatever remains
visible must often seem difficult to understand.

I would have left it there except that Samuel J responded in turn.
In his response Samuel J wrote:

Steve – yes, I’m denying that the media can influence public opinion
[my emphasis - SK]. How much, no one really knows. Is it the most
important factor in a number of potential and actual influences on
public opinion – again, unknown.

But let’s say that the media is the principal influence on voting.

And let’s say that democracy demands that voters have accurate
information presented to them to make an informed decision

otherwise false or biased commentary in the newspapers
will result in voters casting votes different to what they would
if they had unbiased commentary.

Then you are led inexorably into the need to have an overseeing body to bring balance, fairness and accuracy to the media.

Me, I’d prefer (correctly or not) to work on the presumption that
voters are intelligent enough and to sort the wheat from the chaff. That
voters are influenced by a whole host of factors, and that among these
are their peers, friends, personal prejudices etc.

Yes, the media has biased elements – maybe it is dominated by biased
elements. Yes, I often get annoyed about the bias – which I think is
principally left-wing
, although there are elements of extremism on the
other side.

And, yes, I think it would be nice if the media had a clear
distinction between news and comment – the former should consist
entirely of facts and be sourced. The latter can have speculation and
biases.

So his point, as I understand it, is that if we came to the
conclusion that the media have a left wing bias, then we would be forced
to enact some kind of legislation to prevent it, to rectify matters, to
straighten it out. Therefore, it seems, the best way to forestall
having to start regulating the media is to deny that it is biased at all.

Media bias to the left is shown in more studies than the one I quoted in Quadrant.
And there are compensating advantages to the right side since
politicians on the right know they are being watched like hawks so they
tend to be more careful, while those on the left tend to be slipshod
because they are called out less often. Overall, however, this bias
costs votes and support for those on the right. People are less well
informed
and it is more difficult to get a message out. The natural
reflexes of the media is somewhere between Fabian and Marxist,
with an
almost no-enemies-to-the-left approach. Public debate is stifled and
there is a general drift to the left in policy which is brought to an
end usually only because of the fantastic damage such policies do.

Mitt Romney is now ahead of Barack Obama in the polls 48%-43% only
because the evidence of the harm Obama has done has become so
overwhelming that even with all of the protections offered by the media,
the population in general has begun to understand for themselves that
things must change. But this will still likely be a very close election,
and if the media can cause Obama to be re-elected, they will do it. For
the life of me, I just do not see how this can be denied.

Ok,I know it does'nt suit your arguement, that you keep insisting I have mates and that I'd bother to tell them about this,or would get them involved like you did with Palomino,Sod and any other idiot who had the guts to front up.F*ck you,the last thing I want,is Tintin, coming here, wasting his time, like I do,highlighting your lies that are endless, and when one fails, you invent another, like the injured cats you schizoid shitbag...BUT,you never admit your filthy tactics and the knowledge you get from others,so I'm sending you down the path that I went through with my niece and family, which broke my heart and probably the reason,I MIGHT be developing a serious condition,it's just the doctors word I repeat, but not accept, until the fat lady sings, bitch.

As I've said over and over again, retarded one,I have no dealings with Tintin, never spoke to him,if I did,I forgot, obviously.Cori refused to answer me as well,I don't fight for them,I'm using your lies as an example...you are very ungrateful for all the good Tintin did for you,and it's scum like you, that make people lose faith in people and God,who'd follow it,if you're an example of it.I backstabbed a few at DIF and my own friends, first time I ever did it in my life, was the last 18 months,I warned Colin for years, change your attitude, stop the bullshit, lies and rumours you say about your friends and family, the same with Boots and Limelady, they never listened,so I did them. There was a lot of so-called friends, pretending to be one at David Icke forums, whilst keeping me in the dark,of what was being said, and colluding with the bullshit...but I always knew,I just spook them with it,just to let them know, how transparent they always were to me...and I'm proud of it.

Any other hunk of shit you want to bring up.Mountain was a very nice girl there for a while too,I hated her, when she listened to Pinkfreud about me being in love with her,no I was'nt,I just propped her up,cause she was having very big problems at the time with Jose, her guy...as she turned out,she was one of the worst judas's of the lot(Pinkfreud),the very day she got mod-ship,she vowed to f*ck Sean over...I have the PM's,I can screen capture now...do you understand how much I can f*ck these people over know???LOL,ROFLMAO,thankyou,John Drake, love you on the very rare occassion.I have'nt even begun,to stick that knife in real good...and just wait until the people see Limeladies and my last PM together...and the fools who believed I was rude to her...no,I was'nt and Size of Light and Merlincove and Shodan all seen it,but not one,not one of them...supported me...how about that eh?...and look what come out of it.Yeah,I'm consumed by hate for alot of people I used to love...and they deserved every bit of it...and I have'nt even begun to prove it.Oh,I forgave Mountain, you can't stay angry at her,not her fault, she was friends with that lot for years, but she should've stayed out of it...and not spread rumours.Even Hadabusa dropped me from his friends list, how'd the f*ck did he get it wrong,I loved that guy...but he bought the bullshit.I wanted him here,so we could have some fun. That's all...ah,but fark ya's,you all fail before me,as weak people, not to be counted on...in a nutshell,I look after number one these days, you offer me nothing, except target practice...Up Yours, the lot of you...
