Cr Farrell seeks cash after using up expense fund
???...odd story to link to the saving of Astro...

Jan Farrell.

GEELONG councillor Jan Farrell's controversial overseas gambling
conference junket has blown out her annual $3000 council expenses tab.

Cr Farrell will front tomorrow night's council meeting to ask for an
additional $1500 to carry out her duties for the rest of the 2011-12
financial year.

The Geelong Advertiser revealed last week that
Cr Farrell had booked a trip to New Zealand for a biennial
international gambling conference, unbeknown to her fellow councillors.

It is understood to be the first ratepayer-funded overseas trip that has
not been approved by the full council, with Mayor John Mitchell and
others only learning about it days before her departure last Tuesday.

The trip was given the green light by chief executive officer Stephen
Griffin in October, under a policy that allows the CEO to endorse
spending if it doesn't take a councillor's total costs for the financial
year over $3000.

After an internal inquiry, it has since emerged that Cr Farrell has exceeded the limit
by several hundred dollars and now needs the support of her colleagues to gain an
additional $1500 for the next four months.

Cr Mitchell said officers had alerted the Beangala Ward councillor to
her over-spend, which occurred after she attended functions in January.

"She has been asked to apply through a notice of motion at Tuesday's meeting for an extension (of funds)," Cr Mitchell said.

The councillors' expenses and facilities policy allocates $3000 per year
for training programs, conferences and functions for ward and portfolio-related
attendances.

Any amount in excess is subject to the decision of the council.

Cr Farrell would be familiar with the policy, having controlled the
council's governance and democracy portfolio for six years before her
removal in January last year.

Cr Farrell, who returned on Saturday from the three-day conference in Auckland, yesterday declined to comment.

She confirmed last week she would be writing a report on her findings from
the event, that she hoped would be made publicly available.

She has previously come under fire for choosing to talk about the 2008 and
2010 trips which cost $1870 and $2595 respectively instead of
providing a written report that could have been accessed by the public.

Cr Farrell chairs the Geelong Gambling Advisory Committee and serves as a
member of the Victorian Local Government Working Group on Gambling.

A TEENAGER missing in Victoria's high country may be trekking home to South Australia.

Tom McMahon, 15, left a school camp at Mount Timbertop at 4am and has not been seen since.

He is believed to have been carrying a backpack containing a tent and spare clothing.

It is not known whether he has food or water.

Police and State Emergency Service volunteers are tonight searching the area for him.

A police helicopter and dog squad were helping.

Tom, from the Adelaide suburb of Medindie, is a boarder at Geelong Grammar and police believe he may be trying to get back home.

The school's year 9 students spend the year at its Timbertop campus in the high country.

Geelong Grammar principal Stephen Meek said Tom was discovered missing at the 7.25am rollcall.

Since before the invention of 'Dan Brown/author', there has been much chatter
about 'Vatican Secrets' 'being leaked' that 'will destroy the Christian faith'.

This will only be true for those who put their 'faith' in the 'out of Egypt' apostasy.

The Secret (that isn't so secret anymore), is that God's Word covers the entire
time line of the earth.

Here is a current distraction/diversion from further spreading of The Secret...

"Lux in Arcana (Light in the Secret)", is not on The Secret,
those who fall for it, will be weighed to be found wanting...

"Lux in Arcana" goes on show in Rome
Manuscripts, parchments made available by Vatican

Archives formed key setting for Dan Bronw novel

THE papal order in which Martin Luther was excommunicated and a
letter by England's King Henry VIII asking for an annulment of his first
marriage are among 100 items from the Vatican Secret Archives to go on
display overnight in Rome.

Titled "Lux in Arcana (Light in the Secret) - The Vatican Secret
Archives Reveals Itself," the exhibition is being held at the city's
Capitoline Museums.

It contains manuscripts, parchments and
registers which are usually only viewed by scholars who have obtained
special permission from the Vatican.

The exhibition includes
written exchanges between a long succession of popes and various world
leaders and famous historical figures, including Italian Renaissance
master Michelangelo, French Enlightenment author Voltaire and US
President Abraham Lincoln.

Other documents on display are related to the separate heresy trials against astronomer Galileo Galilei and the warrior priests of the Knights Templar.

The exhibition is scheduled to run until September.

The Vatican Secret Archives, a collection spanning more than 1000 years, are
stored in climate controlled chambers in Vatican City.

Interest in the archives has increased in recent years among the general public
after they formed one of the key settings of US author Dan Brown's
international bestselling novel, Angels and Demons, which spawned a Hollywood film of the same name.

The book deals with a fictional conspiracy by a secret order, the Illuminati, to destroy the Vatican.

1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

9He
maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow,
and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

Caz replied to Rick
Thu 01 Mar 12 (10:03am)

I can answer that for you Rick.
It’s because of
militant feminists and because of Emily’s List and the power base they’ve established in the Labor Party.

This is what they say on their website:

We believe women must have control over their own bodies and choices
in their lives. Reproductive Freedom empowers women and men to choose
if, when and how to begin the important journey into parenthood, without
fear of discrimination, coercion or violence.

This is from a quick google - Life Network Australia - Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Emily’s List holds up abortion as a trophy of women’s reproductive
rights, espouses the rhetoric of “choice” and poses as an organisation
fighting for equality of women. At first glance, why wouldn’t any
company jump at the opportunity to sponsor them?

If, however, you look a little more closely, you may just see something more sinister.

It was Emily List’s, Candy Broad, that initially tabled an abortion
Bill that would legalise abortion up until birth - but it was put aside
until after a federal election.

Emily List’s Maxine Morand then retabled it. It was her Emily’s List
colleagues,
Joan Kirner, Jacinta Allan (Bendigo East) and others that
argued passionately in support of the Bill.

When challenged on her support of the legislation, during the last
Victorian election, Ms Allan refused to comment. Her constituents flatly
refused to believe that she would have supported abortion up until
birth. With the protection of her local Bendigo newspaper, she remains
unaccountable.

During the abortion debate in Parliament, images of aborted babies were
viewed. Abortion survivor, Gianna Jessen, gave her amazing story of
surviving an abortion and asked “Where were my rights as a female?”

But Emily’s List MPs remained determined.

Peter Kavanagh, former Member of the Democratic Labour Party, described
how he was told by some ALP MPs that although they did not want to
support the Bill, they were told (by the ALP) that they would not be
endorsed for reselection if they did not
- so much for a conscience vote!

Former ALP Member for Bendigo West, Bob Cameron, voted against the Bill.
He has since been replaced by Emily List’s Maree Edwards.

The legislation was passed and numerous amendments were put forward -
some 60, in fact. It was the rejection of these amendments that gives us
a look into what Emily’s List really stands for.

Given they had succeeded in legalising abortion in Victoria, one would
think that a political organisation that champions the rights of women
would have supported the following amendments: Parental consent for
girls under 18 years (parental consent is required for piercings);
mandatory reporting of suspected sexual abuse; support/counselling for
women considering abortion; a “cooling off period” for women considering
late term abortion. But no - each Emily’s List Member of Parliament
voted each of these amendments down.

Emily Listers also opposed: The banning of partial birth abortions
(banned in the U.S); provision of medical care for aborted babies born
alive; anaesthetic for babies aborted late term; and limitting abortion
availability to 20 or 24 weeks (babies can survive outside the womb at
this stage).

In espousing to be “pro choice”, there is no evidence of Emily’s List
having any interest in any “choice” other than abortion. Where do they
show such determination and passion for adoption? Are they fighting to
have red tape surrounding adoption cut?

Where are they lobbying for pregnancy support centres? Parenting classes?

It is blaringly obvious that Emily’s List is “pro choice” alright...as long as that “choice” is abortion!

The champagne flowed for those Emily Listers who had secured their
ultimate “trophy”, but for the women, families and babies of Victoria
and Australia, it was a very sad day. Legal protection for the unborn
and also for women had been stripped.

THIS is where the Chinese whispers of hate against Tony Abbott come from. THIS is why he is described as DANGEROUS.

They condemn anyone who has the unmitigated gall to think that abortion
is not a badge of honour to be worn lightly and without consequence or
who thinks that women are now being railroaded into abortions without
being shown that there are alternatives
IF they wish to choose them.

Emily’s List are emblematic of
the mentality and moral idiocy of the Left.

Either agree with us or we’ll crucify you.

Hence, Rick, that report will never see the light of day.

No, ‘thank you’ scotty. I’d never even heard of
Emily’s List until I read one of your comments and did a little
investigating. They profess to lobby for the rights of women but in
reality abortion is the be all and end all. They say they are
‘pro-choice’ but God help you if you suggest that women, especially
young women, should be told that such a decision is life altering and
not just a bra-burning badge of freedom. Emily the Strange.

scotty replied to Rick

That is true Caz. I wanted to post the article with

Your mentioning Emily Strange, I am very familiar with the brand.

Why are our tax dollars being wasted on abortion?
Pregnancy is not a disease as far as I’m aware. The money would be

Killing newborns 'comparable to abortion'
KILLING newborn babies should be allowed if the mother wishes, Australian philosophers argue. Read more

This is from Piers Akerman's blog.

Piers, Talking of lies and manipulations, how come things like this paper which was authored by
Alberto Giubilini of Monash University in Melbourne and
Francesca Minerva at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne
are never revealed to the general public, like many other things that are hidden from public scrutiny?

Piers,

A paper published in the
Journal of Medical Ethics argues
that abortion should be extended to make the
killing of newborn babies permissible,
even if the baby is perfectly healthy,

in a shocking example of how

the medical establishment is still dominated by
a eugenicist mindset.

Given they had succeeded in legalising abortion in Victoria, one would
think that a political organisation that champions the rights of women
would have supported the following amendments: Parental consent for
girls under 18 years (parental consent is required for piercings);
mandatory reporting of suspected sexual abuse; support/counselling for
women considering abortion; a “cooling off period” for women considering
late term abortion.

Coalition backs total ban on hashish, marijuana exports exaggerated
Thursday 01 March 2012

A majority of MPs back a total ban on the sale of hashish
because foreign crime gangs profit from importing the drug into the Netherlands,
the Telegraaf reports.

The ruling VVD is set to propose a ban to justice minister Ivo Opstelten,
and is supported by the Christian Democrats and the anti-Islam PVV, the paper says.

The VVD wants to stop the sale of hashish - compressed resin from the
marijuana plant - because it is mainly smuggled in from countries such
as Afghanistan and Morocco.

Smugglers

'It comes from countries where we do not want to be associated with
facilitating criminal organisations,' VVD parliamentarian Ard van der
Steur told the paper. 'It is ridiculous that customs officers do all
they can to prevent imports but once the drug is in the country, it can
be sold.'

Under Dutch drug laws, people may have up to five grammes of hashish
or marijuana for personal use. Soft drugs may be bought and sold in
licenced cannabis cafes known as coffee shops.

Dutch-grown

Meanwhile, figures used by the police to state 80% of the Dutch
home-grown marijuana production is exported to other countries
are
exaggerated
, according to television current affairs show KRO Reporter International.

The police claim some 500 tonnes of Dutch marijuana are exported
every year
, with a street value of some €2.4bn
. The figures come from a
2006 report.

However, the programme claims police believe total production to be
anywhere from 323 tonnes to 766 tonnes a year and that officials have no
clue about how much is actually exported.

In addition, the report states it is extremely unlikely
80% of Dutch marijuana production is exported

because so little is found in neighbouring countries, the programme said.

Labor lies even to itself
Andrew Bolt – Saturday, March 03, 12 (11:45 am)

Dennis Shanahan on a government deceiving itself - and thus threatening its survival, our future and our free speech:

<blockquote>DURING most of the years of the Howard government, the Labor opposition
ran a self-delusional narrative that John Howard was hated, hateful,
unpopular, a liar, unelectable and against immigration and workers. It
was a false narrative at odds with his electoral success but encouraged
by an anti-Howard commentariat.

The Labor government is now in danger of doing what it did in opposition
by believing a false narrative built on its own spin about its
policies, politics and personnel.

Although problems have been obvious from the beginning, critics have
been undermined and isolated, gross mistakes passed over and excused,
policy and implementation failures blamed on others, and myths created
to cover fundamental flaws as part of the grand public deception.

Worst of all, many members of the Rudd-Gillard governments either can’t
see through their own deception or are so complicit in the errors they
can’t afford to acknowledge the truth and deal with it rationally…

The main myths Labor is perpetuating to its own disadvantage are: Tony
Abbott is unpopular and unelectable; the carbon tax is not leading the
world and will gain public support once it’s introduced; the Rudd
government was a good government that just lost its way; the reaction to
the global financial crisis was an unmitigated success; the mining tax
and Rudd as prime minister were destroyed by an advertising campaign
funded by mining billionaires; the rise in asylum-seeker numbers is the
Coalition’s fault; and criticism is part of a “hate media” conspiracy.

</blockquote>
And all the while, political journalists hail each new false dawn for Julia Gillard. Chris Kenny explains:

<blockquote>She lost Labor’s majority at the 2010 election, public faith in her
dropped like a stone when she broke her carbon tax pledge, and since
then a long series of mistakes and controversies has prevented recovery…

Yet time and again journalists and commentators (particularly in what I
like to call the love media: ABC, SBS, Fairfax, etc.) have called the
start of a Julia Gillard comeback. Each time government spin doctors or
MPs have declared a turning point in the Prime Minister’s fortunes, many
commentators have followed the lead.

The overarching government line has been that, having broken her carbon
tax promise, Gillard would start to turn the argument around once the
details of the package were announced.

“In the past two weeks the sands seem to have shifted ever so gently
under the carbon tax debate,” the ABC’s Barrie Cassidy wrote on The Drum
website in June last year. “Suddenly government-inspired information
rather than opposition rhetoric seems to head the coverage. That just
might be the beginning of a trend.”

Well, no, it wasn’t.

Read on. Kenny cites several more names, with examples.

Mardi Gras launched the logo for
the 2012 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras today,
but has dropped "Gay and Lesbian" from the event.

The move has sparked vigorous debate without the LGBTI community,
however SGLMG claims that the move was intended the better reflect

the muti-faceted LGBTI community and thus coincides with
the symbol representing infinite love.

After 10 years of being known as New Mardi Gras,
the organisation has changed its name back
to the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras,
despite dropping the words "Gay and Lesbian" from the event.

(oh, so it's
ONLY, EVERYONE ELSE who HAS TO BOW to
the 'gay & lesbian' DEMANDS
SHOVED DOWN THE WORLD'S THROAT.
NOT, The FUCK THE WORLD OVER, LEFT.)

The name change is accompanied by the launch of a new season logo
which was developed with advertising agency Moon Communications Group.

Moon creative director Greg Logan told the Star that
the logo is a universal symbol that connects with everyone in a different way.

"It symbolizes all types of genders coming together and does not
discriminate. its symmetry indicates equality and people coming
together to celebrate love," he said.

This year Mardi Gras will feature guest appearances from RuPaul,
Jonathan Hellyer and Sneaky Sound System.

Because the palaces

Then judgment 4941 shall dwell 7931 in the wilderness 4057, and righteousness 6666 remain 3427 in the fruitful field 3759.

And the work 4639 of righteousness 6666 shall be peace 7965; and the effect 5656 of righteousness 6666 quietness 8252 and assurance 983 for 5704 ever 5769.

And my people 5971 shall dwell 3427 in a peaceable 7965 habitation 5116, and in sure 4009 dwellings 4908, and in quiet 7600 resting places 4496;

When it shall hail 1258 , coming down 3381 on the forest 3293; and the city 5892 shall be low 8213 in a low place 8218.

Blessed 835 [are] ye that sow 2232 beside all waters 4325, that send forth 7971 [thither] the feet 7272 of the ox 7794 and the ass 2543.

His term as Prime Minister was brought to an early and dramatic end
in December 1967
when he disappeared while swimming at Cheviot Beach
near Portsea, Victoria
, and was presumed drowned.

Holt's disappearance triggered a leadership crisis in the Liberal Party
which briefly raised the possibility of a split in the Coalition.

On the morning of 18 December Country Party leader John McEwen publicly declared
that neither he nor his Country Party colleagues would serve in a Coalition

if the deputy Liberal leader William McMahon were elected as Liberal leader.

In 1983, British journalist Anthony Grey published a controversial book
in which he claimed that Holt had been an agent for
the People's Republic of China
and that he had been
picked up by a Chinese submarine off Portsea and taken to China.

In 1968 the newly commissioned
United States Navy Knox class destroyer escort
USS Harold E. Holt (FF-1074) was named in his honour.

She was launched by Holt's widow Dame Zara
at the Todd Shipyards in Los Angeles on 3 May 1969,
and was the first American warship
to bear the name of a foreign leader.

In 1969 a plaque commemorating Holt was bolted to the seafloor off
Cheviot Beach after a memorial ceremony. It bears the inscription:

In memory of Harold Holt, Prime Minister of Australia, who loved the sea and disappeared hereabouts on 17 December 1967.
Other memorials include:

By way of a folk memorial, he is recalled in the Australian vernacular expression
"do a Harold Holt" (or "do the Harry"), rhyming slang for "do a bolt" meaning
"to disappear suddenly and without explanation", although this is usually employed
in the context of disappearance from a social gathering rather than a case of presumed
death.[13]

Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations – Bob Carr’s favourite book
5 comments

Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus - the great 2nd century Roman emperor –
wrote one of the great works of literature Meditations in, Greek, about his ideas of
Stoic philosophy. It is Bob Carr’s favourite book*.

An irony is that this last of the so-called ‘five good emperors’
lent support to his son and successor Commodus.
Firstly Aurelius groomed Commodus for succession,
and ultimately shared the throne with his son
who then enjoyed an unchallenged succession.
Cassius Dio wrote of Commodus that his rule turned the Empire

<blockquote>from a kingdom of gold to one of rust and iron.</blockquote>
Among many unsavoury features of Commodus
(which included shameful cruelty),
he squandered the resources of the State,
almost depleting the treasury.
He responded by devaluing the currency
leading to an extended period of hyperinflation
(including by debasing and reducing
the percentage of silver in coins).
He also seized property in a vain attempt
to replenish the treasury which,
naturally, tends to inhibit economic activity.

Is history repeating itself:
Carr following his hero in
promoting and giving aid and comfort to a corrupt,
incompetent and wasteful regime?

Some memorable quotes from Meditations:

<blockquote>The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

Observe constantly that all things take place by change, and accustom
thyself to consider that the nature of the Universe loves nothing so
much as to change the things which are, and to make new things like
them.

Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current;
no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another
takes its place, and this too will be swept away.

To understand the true quality of people, you must look into their minds, and examine their pursuits and aversions.

We are too much accustomed to attribute to a single cause that which
is the product of several, and the majority of our controversies come
from that.

To the wise, life is a problem; to the fool, a solution.
</blockquote>
*A better translation of Meditations may be found in Penguin by Maxwell Staniforth (1964). For the original Greek, see the excellent Perseus website.

A PICTURE featuring Port Arthur gunman Martin Bryant
was awarded Tasmania's leading prize for landscape painting yesterday.

Sydney artist Rodney Pople, who won the $35,000 Glover Prize,
defended his controversial painting saying that as an artist he saw it
as his role to sometimes bring issues up that were uncomfortable, the
Hobart Mercury reports.

"There are too many artists just doing things for the market and I tend to
want to do work that has a bit more of an edge to it," he said.

Mr Pople said he was living in Sydney on April 28, 1996, when 35 people were murdered.

A Hobart detective, who spent 24 hours at the scene of the massacre and
twice interviewed Bryant, is outraged over the art award.

Former Tasmania Police inspector John Warren said: "I can't comprehend
how someone can be so insensitive to all the victims and people who have been
scarred for life.

"They would be outraged and so am I."

Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority chief executive Stephen Large
said that any publicity or images associated with Bryant were not helpful to
those affected by the Port Arthur massacre.

Mr Warren said he found the painting totally outrageous, adding:
"I think it is in very poor taste.

"He might be a good artist but he has shown no common sense."

Mr Pople said he was aware of how deeply hurt Tasmanians had been by the massacre.

But he defended Bryant's inclusion in the painting, explaining: "It is very
much part of the imprint of the landscape of Port Arthur as much as the
surreal beauty of the green fields, which were put in to camouflage the
brutality of the whole place.

"Martin Bryant is not glorified in the painting he is very small and he's in there because
he is part of the framework and footprint of the landscape but only in a very small scale.

"He is sort of fading into the distance compared to the power of the whole landscape but
he is part of it. I am not in any way glorifying Martin Bryant but to ignore it is looking in
the wrong way as well."

Chief judge Doug Hall said that raising the profile of the Glover Prize,
which is sponsored by a hotel chain, was the last thing on the judges' minds.

The three judges had all agreed that the Pople painting was the best and not a
gratuitous or provocative work.

who was living in Tasmania at the time of the massacre and
Jan Senbergs.

Sponsor Federal Hotels
, which is putting
$165,000 into the Glover prize over five years, was
unmoved by the furore
over the painting.

"Our only comment is that it is a matter for the judges and they are selected for
their skills and expertise," the company's communications director Daniel Hanna said.

Asian century, Asian century … let’s do the count
32 comments

It’s been work-shopped, sent to the focus groups, approved by
McTiernan (who knows nothing about Australia) and the message has gone
out to the Labor politicians.

AT EVERY POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY, MENTION ASIAN CENTURY.

In a tedious piece by Chris Bowen (I actually love it when politicians ”write” op-eds –
it saves my time), yes, it is all about the ASIAN CENTURY.

And then we will have the HENRY REPORT – no, not the one about tax,
that is so yesterday – but the one about the ASIAN CENTURY. This is
even though Ken Henry is actually not an expert on Asia – at all – but
an expert on tax. Go figure.

So Cats unite, I want us to form bands of bean counters, no, … Asian century mention counters.

I guess it beats MOVING FORWARD but not by much. Does this mean we are now MOVING BACKWARDS?

Or are we MOVING FORWARD INTO THE ASIAN CENTURY TO RELIEVE THE PRESSURES ON WORKING FAMILIES.

Winds of change … Ptolemy's view of a world ''balanced'' by the presence of Antarctica. Photo: Ben Rushton

IN THE second series of Blackadder,
the acid-tongued Elizabethan hero is handed a map
as a petulant ''Queenie'' banishes him
on a round-the-world voyage.
It's just a blank piece of paper, and he is asked
if he could just pencil it in as he sails along.

It is hard to contemplate such a sense of mystery about the world in this age
of GPS phone apps and Google Earth, where every backyard barbecue venue
can be found from space. What is there left to discover?

Yet a new exhibition at the State Library of NSW goes back just a few hundred years
to when the world's best cartographers would happily write the Latin for
''Here be dragons'' or ''Here are lions'' to depict dangerous areas still to be explored.

Mapping history

a map of the Southern Hemisphere by James Cook (on easel)
and the Typus Orbis Terrarum 1570 map.
Photo: Ben Rushton

Finding Antarctica: Mapping the last Continent, which opens tomorrow,
features about 100 rare maps

spanning 2000 years of
fascination with
''the Great Southern Land''.

The peg for the exhibition is the centenary of
Sir Douglas Mawson's Australasian Antarctic expedition,
which sailed from Hobart on December 2, 1911.
But it also showcases
the library's magnificent
200,000-strong collection of maps
illustrating the discovery and
habitation of the southern hemisphere.

Mawson's achievements are duly acknowledged, curator Maggie Patton says.
His first expedition, the AAE 1911-14,
was a scientific mission
that surveyed much of what is now
the Australian Antarctic Territory.

Such
a vast territorial claim depended on the heroic struggles of
expedition members, illustrated by a companion display which focuses on
the ''forgotten men''
of the Western base party. Led by polar veteran Frank Wild, the Western party
spent 12 months on sledging and surveying duties without loss of life, but
their achievements were overshadowed by the dramas of the main party.

A key map in the exhibition, from 1939,
shows Australia's official polar claims
following Mawson's second expedition,
the British, Australian, New Zealand
Antarctic Research Expedition
from 1929 to 1931.

Patton says
''this is considered the world's first reliable map of Antarctica''.

But many early maps of the region were anything but reliable.
The earliest in the exhibition, by Francesco Berlinghieri, was made in 1492,
after Columbus had discovered the Americas.

Essentially it shows the world
as envisaged by Ptolemy,
the Greek astronomer and geographer,
1200 years earlier -
with a vast unknown land,
terra incognita
.
Philosophers such as Ptolemy believed there must be a
southern land ''to provide balance'', Patton says.

Ironically,
the first map

to focus entirely on Antarctica,

Polus Antarcticus made in 1637
by the renowned Dutch cartographer
Hendricus Hondius,

concluded there was no continent.

The version in the exhibition, made around 1657,
and incorporating Abel Tasman's discoveries of
southern Australia and New Zealand, is
beautifully hand coloured with ornate cartouches.

On his second voyage in 1772, Captain Cook set out to prove whether Antarctica existed.
The exhibition features an original chart, with a handwritten note on the back advising
that the yellow line on the front shows Cook's proposed route for the Resolution and
Adventure.

Cook sailed deep into
the Antarctic Circle three times,

on the boundaries of what was then possible.
His verdict?
No continent existed -
or if it did, it would be uninhabitable.

Finding Antarctica: Mapping the Last Continent , State Library of NSW, tomorrow until February 19.
Correction: An earlier version of this story said Columbus discovered the Americas in 1482.

It contains manuscripts, parchments and registers which
are usually only viewed by scholars who have obtained
special permission from the Vatican.

The exhibition includes written exchanges between a long succession of popes
and various world leaders and famous historical figures, including
Italian Renaissance master Michelangelo, French Enlightenment author Voltaire
and US President Abraham Lincoln.

Other documents on display are related to the separate heresy trials
against astronomer Galileo Galilei
and the warrior priests of the Knights Templar.

The exhibition is scheduled to run until September.

The Vatican Secret Archives, a collection spanning more than 1000 years, are
stored in climate controlled chambers in Vatican City.

Interest in the archives has increased in recent years among the general public
after they formed one of the key settings of US author Dan Brown's
international bestselling novel, Angels and Demons, which spawned a Hollywood film
of the same name.

The book deals with a fictional conspiracy by a secret order, the Illuminati,
to destroy the Vatican.

funny that map article.
I missed it to, but just before the Vatican Secret Files On Display, news,
I was picturing some of those old, 'inaccurate' world maps,
and how many of them had 'the great southern land', including Chinese maps,
and suddenly I wanted to see All of them, over-laid...I just sort of pictured,
from
some of the odd old maps they let us see, what the ancient, Moving
masses of land, could have looked like, over Very Ancient times.

And as it is, that article admitting to a 2000 Year 'fascination', also admits to being
aware of a much bigger world, with a land to 'return to' (stories=memories),
at a time they decided to tie/Bind Up, The Words of The Bible to that,
"oh, it was just recent local history, of local people.", 'out of Egypt' lie.

It really is like they do keep admitting
the truth of Bible Time Line - Australia Connections,
in news, docos, movies etc, an image here, a line there,
showing blatant contradictions in the 'accepted' time lines
and histories, and pointing at Australia's many 'overlooked'
and very ancient histories.

But still, despite how many historic and archeological 'anomalies' would clearly line up,
none game to review and compare what's actually written in The Bible, with what science
has caught up with.

And yet more and more, I keep getting the nagging feeling, that someone with influence,
has to start bringing it out, at least up 'chats around dining tables' level.

Particularly with the RISE in TRASHING OUR SOLDIERS AND THEIR GRAVES;
'pacifying' 'nice' Australians to Not Fight FOR Their Country,
BUT FIGHT FOR FOREIGN INVADERS, AND MORE of THEM TO COME IN,
while GENUINE Refugees and Migrant Applicants who want to be Part Of Our Western/Christian, keep getting knocked back,
EVEN WITH Western/Christian AUSTRALIAN BACKING their applications !!???

the wrong way as well."

Chief judge Doug Hall said that raising the profile of the Glover Prize,
which is sponsored by a hotel chain, was the last thing on the judges' minds.

The three judges had all agreed that the Pople painting was the best and not a

HolloWAY and ConWAY.
and it were CON man behind it.
Not the usual conmen but the more dangerous ones, the
ones that pose as DECENT citizens.
(as 'tintin' so often
proclaims himself, while slandering those of us who warn
the world about the likes of him)

And Holloway and Maddie Mccann are closely connected.
So this TASMANIAN story most certainly is an
important message.

Tasmanie or van DIEMENS LAND.
Diemen as DEMON.
hadn't thought of that but it's very true.
DIEMEN in Holland, named after Jan van Diemen.

Road 112 to DIEMEN
European alarm number.

Diemen or DEMON.

DIEMEN is the most
dangerous town in Holland.

It's a wealthy suburb of Amsterdam, and a lot
of Criminals from Amsterdam have their appartment in Diemen.
Saw it on Teletext, Diemen most dangerous....
Very surprised because it looks so peaceful.

Anyway, but the DEMON link is fitting.

The biggest MASSACRE in australian history was in Port Arthur.
Martin bryant was the patsy.

MARTIN. or MARTINI.
Tasmania is named after a GRONINGER and
Groningen City, is the MARTINI-City.

The famous MARTINI tower.
96 meters high.
So a MASSACRE in Port arthur.

So what place did the PRINCE OF ORANGE visited
while in tasmania?

Willem alexander in Port Arthur.
Martin Bryant.
Killed 35 people.

Well VERA, here is a bit of MAGIC you were asking for.
(yep, for tintin to show his hand)

HARRY POTTER, Dutch
prime minister, born the same
date as MARTIN BRYANT.

He is Jan Peter Balkenende and his nick
is Harry Potter.

the port atrhur Massacre was 28 april.
but when in Holland it's still partly 27 april at the same time.
The PRINCE of ORANGE is born 27 APRIL.

So just to give a bit of background info on
the DUTCH connection to Tasmania.

And the school Bryant went to is
Marcelinn College, run by the MARISTS.
that the SOCIETY of MARY.

Here we have that MARY link.
The Bloodline of MARY Magdalena.

MARCELINN CHAMPAGNAT.
born 20 MAY. 13 days after
the Massacre.
The thirteenth satanic Bloodline.

Now remember, it was under the name, "Cruise",
that "tintin" first said he'd "swim to Tasmania",
and that under the name, "Aarnout van der Plooge",
"tintin" claimed to be from Groningen...and then look
at how this 'EXPERT WITH NUMBERS', gets such simple,
basic math, so 'wrong'...'wrong' my foot!
It's a PLOT SCRIPT!

"The biggest MASSACRE in australian history was in
Port Arthur.

20 MAY. 13 days after
the Massacre.

the port atrhur Massacre was 28 april.

but when in Holland it's still partly 27 april at the same time.
The PRINCE of ORANGE is born 27 APRIL."

So what's with the MAY 20 & 13?
13 May=my birthday.
20 May=my daughter's.

So? It's not about me, but, it is about 'them' trying to
force the whole world to Deny The Holy Spirit of
The Creator God I serve, Who Warned us of 'their' plots
to do so (through BLOODY, UNJUST, SLAUGHTERS,
And, THE WEB NET of SPIES and LIES IN OUR HOUSES),

HORRIFIC footage of the aftermath
of the 1996 Port Arthur massacre
has been uploaded on YouTube.

Police aretrying to trace
the account holder,
whose uploaded under
the alias "FreeMartinBryant".

The nine-minute evidence video
was stolen from the Tasmanian Police archive.

It contains graphic images of some of the 35 people shot dead at the
tourist spot, and police last night were trying to have it removed from
the internet.

FreeMartinBryant's user profile contains more than
20 videos pertaining to "conspiracies"
surrounding the events of
Port Arthur, with several videos pertaining to Bryant's "innocence".

It is unknown how the footage was obtained,
but it also appeared on the internet in 2004 .

"Unfortunately this isn't the first time that this training video has turned up
in the wider community," Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard said.

"A copy was located at a public tip in 2004, which led to an investigation."
Police Minister David O'Byrne said the footage was unlikely to have been stolen recently.
The video archive was upgraded in 2004.

"Tasmania Police changed their procedures after discovering the material may be
in the public domain, in 2004," he said. "I'm advised no breach has occurred since then
and that the current procedures for handling such material are secure."

Police are greatly concerned about the effect the video could have on the wider community.
"It
is highly distressing not only for the families of the victims, but for
the community, for these images to be available on the internet," Mr
Tilyard said.
Trauma psychologist Paul Stevenson,
who worked for many years
with many of the survivors and victims' families,
shared the disbelief and horror
about the posted video.

"To post this is a nasty, terrible thing to have occurred," the Brisbane-based consultant psychologist said.
"By watching or hearing it is a re-experience - all of those things people
felt at the time come back. The tragedy occurs all over.
"This is very distressing ...
a real worry for families of victims
because
this is exactly what triggers
post-traumatic stress."

Dutch royals touch down on Aussie visit

Hobart has put on a chilly welcome for Dutch royals the Prince

Premier Paul Lennon and Governor William Cox braved icy winds to
meet the royal couple from the Netherlands at Hobart airport on
Wednesday afternoon.

"We are very pleased and honoured that their royal highnesses
have chosen to include Tasmania in their Australian visit," Mr
Lennon said.

"I am particularly delighted that the royal couple has chosen to
spend two days in Tasmania visiting a number of our attractions.

"Dutch explorer Abel Tasman was the first European to sight the
state that now bears his name
and the steady stream of Dutch
migrants to Tasmania have made an enormous contribution in so many
areas."

The couple's itinerary includes
a tour of the Tasmanian Museum
and Art Gallery, a visit to
Port Arthur
and a private reception
for the Dutch community

at the Henry Jones Art hotel.

The couple is in Australia on
an official visit to celebrate 400 years

On our MTR 1377 show today,
a rather vigorous discuss with former aid worker
Andrew MacLeod

on whether we are generous or reckless
in trying to make boat people seem so very welcome.

Green by name, ABC presenter by profession
The ABC’s latest recruit for current affairs presentation duties
is even further to the Left than usual.

Indeed, Jonathan Green is soft on former (?) supporters of Left totalitarians,
while smearing mainstream conservative parties as neo-Nazis.

Gerard Henderson describes Green’s recent group-hug with Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon:

Let’s take the following question, where JG gave Rhiannon a “free kick”
by using the are-you-a-member-of-the-Communist-Party question
once favoured by the discredited anti-communist Joe McCarthy.
Let’s go to the transcript:

Jonathan Green: Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?

Lee
Rhiannon: I was not a member of Communist Party. But I was a member of
the Socialist Party and I worked on a whole range of issues with my
colleagues around international disarmament, women’s rights, issues to do with unemployment – and I continue to see that these are important issues.

This is a cop-out… The facts are known – by Jonathan Green and others.

- When Lee Rhiannon joined the Socialist Party of Australia in 1970-71,
it was the pro-Soviet Union part of the communist movement…

- From around 1970 until the collapse of the European communism in 1990,
Lee Brown – who became Lee O’Gorman by marriage and Lee Rhiannon by deed poll

was associated with the SPA, which received funds from the Soviet Union.
Lee O’Gorman edited the pro-Moscow journal Survey for some of this time
– including its final edition in 1990.

- Lee Rhiannon refuses to answer questions as to whether her travels to
communist Eastern Europe in the 1970s and 1980s were funded – in whole or in part –
by the Communist regimes in East Germany and the like.

- Senator Rhiannon also refuses to say whether
she studied at the Lenin School in Moscow in 1977.
The Lenin School was a training ground for pro-Moscow communists the world over.

On all these matters, JG let Senator Rhiannon off the hook.
Earlier in the interview, he did ask her about Christian Kerr’s recent articles
in The Australian which – based on ASIO’s now released files – demonstrated
that she was contacted by Vladimir Alekseev in 1970, the KGB’s man in
the Soviet Embassy in Australia. However, JG’s questioning was soft –
of the: “Were you a KGB informer?” genre. Senator Rhiannon replied
in the negative.

Compare and contrast:

On 11 January 2011, Jonathan Green appeared on the ABC TV The Drum program ...
(to discuss) a controversial neo-Nazi festival, which was planned for the Gold Coast
in Queensland. The festival in question was called the “Hammered” and its organisers
included such white supremist groups as “Blood and Honour”.

During the studio discussion, Jonathan Green declared:
“We shouldn’t trivialise this folks, it’s nasty.” Quite so. However,

when it was put in the discussion that if the event had not been criticised
no one would have known about it, Jonathan Green agreed – declaring :

It would be just another day on the Gold Coast
and everyone would think it was an LNP fundraiser…

During the same program, Jonathan Green compared “the John Howard
leadership” style with that of the dictator Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
According to Green, both men held the view that if they step down “it
will be at the will of the people”.

This is why family entertainment at the Green household has included

beating a Howard effigy with a stick.

Our” ABC is committed to every kind of diversity except diversity of thought.

Latest evidence?
the editor of its new on-line opinion section Jonathan Green,
who has been not only the editor of the
far-Left Crikey website, but a proud member of Victoria’s Pinata Left as well. Yes, that’s John Howard hanging from Green’s tree:

[The image of the Howard pinata in
Green’s tree that was here has been taken down by order of Green friend
Sophie Cunningham, the owner of the site which proudly displayed the
picture for two years but now fears it may hurt Green to be shown on
this blog.]

It must be Green’s politics that particularly appealed to the ABC.
Why else hire a
largely unread blogger?

Of course, I may be wrong. Maybe the ABC’s online section will indeed
prove under Green to be fair and balanced. One clue will be who the ABC
hires to balance both Green and its other on-line signing, Annabel Crabb.

UPDATE

I’d also urge the ABC to be very careful of
Green’s quality control
over his writers and blog readers. I was forced recently to write the
following to his boss, Eric Beecher, the famous campaigner for “quality
journalism”, and am still considering my options, as they say:

Last week I drew your attention to comments and blog
postings you had published over the space of just a few days calling me

a “proven liar”, “nutty”, “unhinged”, “underhand”, “loopy”, “paranoid”, a
“hypocrite”, a “racist”, “dishonest”, “hysterical”, “petty”,
“evasive”, “deluded”, “irrational”, lacking in morality, someone guilty
of “deliberately misrepresenting” people, “full of poisonous shit”, and a
“notorious liar” who practices “lies, misrepresentations, and deceit”,
“lies, distortions and smears”, “fakery” and “cowardice and
dishonesty”, while giving “tacit approval” to “extremist sickos” and
“playing the paranoid schizo’’, resembling in my person an “asylum for
the criminally insane”. You conceded that these comments included a
number of statements that were “untrue and unnecessarily personal in
tone”.

Since then one of Green’s writers
has urged in a headline that I be ”
sodomised,
and his site has said of me that “we are dealing with fascism,
plain and simple’’ and, referring to me and my readers,
“I sometimes think Stalin had the right idea -
line a million or so of ‘em up against a wall”.

Yesterday I was named in a Crikey article as someone so corrupt
as be evidently driven to scepticsm by “a desire for funds from
fossil-fuel companies”, and was smeared besides as “undoubtedly more
dangerous” than a “Holocaust denier”, and, in time, ”
morally worse”.

I hope the ABC’s lawyers are ready for the exciting new brand of
“quality journalism” coming their way. I’m still considering how to
respond to Crikey’s “quality journalism”, especially after this latest
foul claim
, and any lawyer should consider themselves free to advise.

(I mention this because I’ve just received a furious call from some
person whose identity I cannot reveal saying I’d crossed a line. If the
line was drawn by Green, I’d still need a telescope to find it.)

Behold, a king 4428 shall reign 4427 in righteousness 6664, and princes 8269 shall rule 8323 in judgment 4941.

And a man 376 shall be as an hiding place 4224 from the wind 7307, and a covert 5643 from the tempest 2230; as rivers 6388 of water 4325 in a dry place 6724, as the shadow 6738 of a great 3515 rock 5553 in a weary 5889 land 776.

And the eyes 5869 of them that see 7200 shall not be dim 8159 , and the ears 241 of them that hear 8085 shall hearken 7181 .

The heart 3824 also of the rash 4116 shall understand 995 knowledge 1847, and the tongue 3956 of the stammerers 5926 shall be ready 4116 to speak 1696 plainly 6703.

The vile person
5036 shall be no more called 7121 liberal 5081, nor the churl 3596 said 559 [to be] bountiful 7771.

For the vile person 5036 will speak 1696 villany 5039, and his heart 3820 will work 6213 iniquity 205, to practise 6213 hypocrisy 2612, and to utter 1696 error 8442 against the LORD 3068, to make empty 7324 the soul 5315 of the hungry 7457, and he will cause the drink 4945 of the thirsty 6771 to fail 2637 .

The instruments 3627 also of the churl 3596 [are] evil 7451: he deviseth 3289 wicked devices 2154 to destroy 2254 the poor 6041 6035 with lying 8267 words 561, even when the needy 34 speaketh 1696 right 4941.

But the liberal 5081 deviseth 3289 liberal things 5081; and by liberal things 5081 shall he stand 6965 .

Rise up 6965 , ye women 802 that are at ease 7600; hear 8085 my voice 6963, ye careless 982 daughters 1323; give ear 238 unto my speech 565.

Many days 3117 and years 8141 shall ye be troubled 7264 , ye careless women 982 : for the vintage 1210 shall fail 3615 , the gathering 625 shall not come 935 .

Tremble 2729 , ye women that are at ease 7600; be troubled 7264 , ye careless ones 982 : strip 6584 you, and make you bare 6209 , and gird 2290 [sackcloth] upon [your] loins 2504.

They shall lament 5594 for the teats 7699, for the pleasant 2531 fields 7704, for the fruitful 6509 vine 1612.

Upon the land 127 of my people 5971 shall come up 5927 thorns 6975 [and] briers 8068; yea, upon all the houses 1004 of joy 4885 [in] the joyous 5947 city 7151:

Because the palaces
759 shall be forsaken 5203 ; the multitude 1995 of the city 5892 shall be left 5800 ; the forts 6076 and towers 975 shall be for dens 4631 for 5704 ever 5769, a joy 4885 of wild asses 6501, a pasture 4829 of flocks 5739;

Fire at Gothic Slovak Castle
Casts Shadow Over Polls

(casts shadows over polls)
March 10, 2012, 11:49 PM CET
By Leos Rousek

As Slovakia focuses on
general elections, Krasna Horka
,
a monumental gothic castle in the eastern part
of the euro-zone nation
, burned down
after allegedly catching fire
from illegal burning of dry grass,
officials said Saturday.

“For many this sad event at Krasna Horka has cast a huge shadow over
today’s elections,”
outgoing Prime Minister Iveta Radicova said in a
live television interview commenting on exit polls of parliamentary elections.

The 14th-century national monument, whose name means
“beautiful little hill,” towers over the village of Krasnohorske Podhradie
near the eastern Slovak town of Roznava.

Slovakia’s left-of-center opposition Smer party is predicted to be
the election’s winner, estimated to garner 37.3% of the vote. The party,
championing higher taxes on the rich and large corporations, is
expected to lead talks on forming the new coalition government, possibly
including the centrist Christian Democratic Movement, or KDH.

KDH is estimated to have won 10.8% of the vote.
